West Orange Scholarship Fund to honor DeMaio

WO-marie demaio-WWEST ORANGE, NJ — Washington Elementary School Principal Marie DeMaio will be honored by the West Orange Scholarship Fund for her 54 — and counting — years of service to the West Orange community at a cocktail reception to be held at Rock Spring Country Club on May 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

DeMaio began work at Washington Elementary School as a second-grade teacher and held that position for 23 years. She was named principal in 1985. Since 2002, DeMaio has been the president of the West Orange Administrators Association; prior to that she was vice-president of the West Orange Educators Association for many years while a second-grade teacher.

“My goal was always to educate children, and my staff and I have worked tirelessly to ensure their academic success. It is a privilege and a joy to work with my beautiful children here at Washington School,” DeMaio said in a release.

Admission to the cocktail reception is charged; a cash bar will be present. Proceeds will go to establish a permanent endowment in the name of Marie DeMaio, the earnings from which will be used to fund annual scholarships in perpetuity. Additionally, funds will be set aside for the benefit of Washington Elementary School to be used as directed by DeMaio.

Rock Spring Country club is located at 90 Rock Spring Road in West Orange. To order tickets, or to take out an ad, contact WOSF treasurer Jim Quinn at jquinn@allenco.com or 212-339-2548.
