WEST ORANGE, NJ — Students across the West Orange School District were recognized for their Pride in Education essays in the annual competition sponsored by the Essex County Education Association.
First-place winners received $75, second-place winners received $50 and third-place winners received $25. Students read their award-winning essays at the awards ceremony on March 1.
Hazel Elementary School kindergartener Sarah Francois won a third-place award with teacher Phyllis Seibert; Redwood Elementary School first-grader Leah Rodriguez won a third-place award with teacher Amanda Hegedus; Gregory Elementary School second-grader Joshua Canton won a second-place award with teacher Mary J. Carr; Hazel third-grader Kennedy Curry won a second-place award with teacher Stacie Varanelli; Kelly Elementary School fourth-grader Jana Abdelghany won a first-place award with teacher Alison Urban; Liberty Middle School seventh-grader Isabella Davis won a first-place award with teacher Kimberly DeMeo; and West Orange High School 10th-grader Odalys Faiardo Rivera won a third-place award with teacher Sharon Ortiz.
