WOHS Marching Mountaineers take top honors at Scotch Plains-Fanwood competition

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School Marching Mountaineers got off to a great start in their competitive season with a first place win at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Marching Band Competition on Sept. 17.

The Mountaineers’ performance of “Defying Gravity” took top honors and won all caption awards in the Group V category, including best music, best visual and best overall effect. Mayor Kevin Glover of Scotch Plains and Mayor Colleen Mahr of Fanwood presented the first-place Best Overall Band award to the Mountaineers.

In addition to West Orange, competing bands included Linden High School, Cranford High School, South Plainfield High School, East Brunswick High School, North Plainfield High School, Westfield High School, Edison High School, John P. Stevens High School and host Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, which performed in exhibition.
