WEST ORANGE, NJ — Several students from the West Orange High School made their mark at the annual Junior Statesman of America winter congress, held the weekend of Feb. 24 in Washington, D.C.

Students Mark Younker and Sophia Wadih presented a mock bill on standardized testing reform, and Bijan Terani and Mike Petros presented a mock bill on the decriminalization of drug use. Both bills were passed.

In addition to the successful passage of bills, Younker, a WOHS senior, won the Convention’s Best Speaker Award. More than 200 high school students from the Mid-Atlantic and Texas regions attended.
