Barbara W. Underwood, 88, of Glen Ridge passed away peacefully on June 27th.
She was born and raised in Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Victor A. Wurster and Esther W. Wurster. Barbara graduated from Goucher College where she had been a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She subsequently worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories, where she became Supervisor of Women’s Employment in Manhattan. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
A longtime resident of Glen Ridge, she was actively engaged in the community, including member and president of the Goucher Club of Northern New Jersey, member and vice president of the Junior League of Montclair, member and president of Glen Ridge Congregational Church Women’s Association, member and twice president of the Glen Ridge Women’s Club. She also served on the Glen Ridge Civic Conference Committee, and as Committee Woman for Election District 1, and volunteered at the Mountainside Hospital blood bank and the Montclair Art Museum library.
She is survived by Ken, her husband of 58 years, K.C., her son, and her grandchildren Ebby and Garrett.
There will be a memorial service at the Glen Ridge Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Memorials & Gifts Fund of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church or in memory of Barbara Underwood to the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge.
