Eurcelle Carnegie

Eurcelle Carnegie, 82, of South Orange, NJ passed away on April 16, 2018. Eurcelle was the eldest child of Eugene and Geneva Dixon born on July 27, 1935.
A memorial service will be held on April 22, 2018 at Martin’s Home for Service Inc, 48 Elm Street, Montclair, NJ.
Eurcelle was born in Newark, NJ and lived in South Orange for 48 Years. She earned a BA in Education from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean University) and a Master’s Degree from Seton Hall University. She was also a Paralegal which became a hobby after her teaching career.
Eurcelle was a 2nd grade teacher at Marshall School in South Orange for 26 years. The school was within walking distance of her home and it became her home away from home. She took much pride in being not a teacher but a great teacher. Shaping young minds defined her existence. Her intelligence, self-determination and independence were evident to all who knew her. These were some of the same traits she instilled in her many students spanning 40 years. Upon retirement, the Township of South Orange issued a proclamation declaring her retirement day of June 26th to be “Eurcelle Carnegie Day”. The proclamation acknowledged her many years of service in the community.
Eurcelle was an avid reader. Once retired, she enjoyed playing Bridge with friends and making regular trips to Atlantic City. She was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Her favorite pastime was being with family and this was the highlight of her life. Spending time with her three grandchildren were the most cherished times of all.
In August of 1966, Eurcelle Dixon married Lloyd M. Carnegie. They shared 28 happy years before his transition in 1994. She was the proud and doting mother of Lisa, Kyle and Lloyd Jr. (Kip) and cherished the many happy occasions to celebrate their accomplishments.
Kyle and his wife Colleen reside in Haymarket, Virginia, and have 3 wonderful children which Eurcelle adored; Kendall, Kayla and Cameron. Lisa resides in Ashburn, VA and Lloyd resides in Maplewood with his husband, Daniel Rath. She also leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth Jackson of Hampton, GA and a brother Gene Dixon of Pasadena, CA. She is survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
