Murphy — James M. Our beloved father passed away peacefully in his 106th year on May 23rd, 2016. Jim Murphy was born on August 29, 1910 in Cambridge Massachusetts, the son of Michael Murphy and Catherine McDermott. He attended Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and the University of Wyoming. He married Helen Joan Glasco in 1942, and lived for many years in Amityville, New York and Little Compton, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by his wife and three of his children, James Murphy, Jr., Kevin Murphy and Curtis Murphy, and is survived by his children Kathleen Mencher, Paul Murphy, Donald Murphy, Gregory Murphy, Maryellen Peck, Sheila Murphy, Elizabeth Murphy and Margaret DeAngelis, seventeen grand- children and eleven great grand-children. An avid sportsman, he golfed and participated in marathons and road races into his nineties. He was a hospice volunteer well into old age and marched in Washington on the eve of his 100th birthday. He was a man of God, wise and kind, a gentle man and a gentleman, devoted to his wife and the well-being of his family. A quiet man. A man of great integrity, humor, grace and fortitude. Rest in peace, Dad. Well done.
