James Patrick Cosgrove

A giant of a man died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, as he had lived his 84 years – at home, surrounded by a loving and adoring family.
Born in Newark, New Jersey on May 14, 1935, to Irish immigrants James Joseph and Mary (Lydon) Cosgrove, was a proud son of the ould sod. Jim was a tough, hard-working Teamster (Local 575); a strong understated man who never felt he needed to be heard, yet commanded the room with his stories of Newark in the fifties and his many adventures. Similarly, he quietly guided his family, through tough times and in good ones, using his example rather than his commands. With love, kindness, patience, and faith, he taught his children, his grandchildren, and those who came to know and love him, how to live a life with meaning.
He loved and adored his bride, Frances (Stalma) Cosgrove, throughout their 59 years of marriage; Jim was a strong, loving, and patient father to Maureen (Tom), James Jr. (Darlene), John (Kim), Frances Ann, and Kerry Ann Andrek (Adam). He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A member of the Holy Name Society of the Sacred Heart, he proudly accepted their Man of the Year honors in 2001.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the O’Boyle Funeral Home 309 Broad St. Bloomfield on Friday at 9:30 a.m. The funeral mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment Sky View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, Pa.
