James Patrick Doyle, 81, died Thursday June 16, 2016 in San Francisco following a battle with cancer. During his final days he was lucid and pain free and died peacefully with his family by his side at home as was his wish.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Ferrera); two sons John (Lori) and Jim (Cindy Fales); a daughter, Margaret (Marc); and five treasured grandchildren, Jack, Will, Ellie, Elisabeth and Michael. He is also survived by two sisters, Marie O’Grady and Nancy Schenk, and a brother, Robert Doyle.
Born and raised in Bloomfield NJ, he was the son of James and Jane (Fleming) Doyle. After graduating from Bloomfield High in 1953 he went on to attend college at Seton Hall University where he worked full time to pay for his education. He later earned an MBA from Seton Hall University as well. Interspersed with his education, Jim served in the Army from 1955-1957, including a tour in Reykjavik, Iceland. Jim met Mary Ann at the Jersey Shore in 1957 and they were married by Bishop James A. McNulty at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Newark NJ.
Jim began his professional career at Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. followed by stints at The Newark News, Indian Head Industries, Inc., Johnson & Johnson and The American Can Company. Later, in 1973, he accepted a job as AVP/Corporate Credit Manager at Crown Zellerbach in San Francisco, opening the door to a new career and a life that he happily embraced in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jim went on to found his own company, JPD Financial, in 1984 a company that is still in operation today and run by his son, John.
During his early years on the West Coast, Jim became an active member of both the Pacific Club and Olympic Club where he met some of his life-long friends and had many great memories – perhaps none more special than his hole-in- one on the Olympic Club Ocean Course when he was 71 years old. An avid sports fan; Jim cheered on the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants and could often be found watching the latest golf tournament. He enjoyed traveling, having visited much of the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America during the course of his lifetime. He loved to explore new things and meet new people.
Jim was blessed with a family and friends that loved him dearly. His wit, style and love of life were contagious. He will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in Jim’s memory to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939. Private Services were held.
