Jeffrey Gill, 73, passed away on June 30, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.
Jeff was born in Liverpool, England. He traveled to America on business 40 years ago where he met his beloved wife Patty and stayed ever since. Moving with work from Connecticut to California to Texas and eventually to Glen Ridge, NJ, the Gill Family grew with the birth of Jeff’s four children Melissa, JJ, Christopher and Emily.
An avid golfer, sports fan and soccer coach, you could find Jeff on weekends at the Country Club putting or at Forest Avenue field yelling at the ref. Working as an accountant in the Freight Industry his entire life, he traveled the world and visited all seven continents and countless countries. However, his home was always here in New Jersey with his family.
It was hard to do him justice, there will be a tremendous void in our lives, but will always be remembered with a smile.
The Gill’s house was always open to everyone and was often filled with noise and laughter, and occasionally shouting when Jeff’s Liverpool FC was playing. During World Cup there was a no knock policy – one simply walked in and took a seat on the brown couch next to Jeff and watched whatever game was on.
Gregarious by nature, Jeff collected friends wherever he went. And if you were lucky enough to call him your friend, he was always there for you – whether it was helping set up a new business or a ride to the airport or to celebrate a hole-in-one, you could count on Jeff. To be his friend was to be part of his family.
Husband of 35 years of Patricia Sheehan Gill. Father of Melissa Gill Smith, Jonathan Gill, Christopher Gill and Emily GIll. Son of the late Charles and Dorothy Gill. Brother to his sister Joan and her husband Richard Bett. Grandfather of Charlotte Rose Smith, who, according to Jeff, looks just like him.
In Lieu of flower, honorary contributions can be made to The Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be at Fitzgerald’s Thursday July 15th from 2 -5.
