Joseph C. Raho

   Joseph C. Raho:  Born in Manhattan August 15, 1925.  Early education began at Public School 90 in the Bronx and continued his High School education at Townsend Harris Preparatory High School in Manhattan of the College of the City of New York.  Completed his three year course of study and was admitted to the College of the City of New York.   With the start of the conflict of World War II in Europe,  he entered the United States Navy where he served until his honorable discharge in 1945.  Upon his return home, he was accepted to Hamilton College, where he majored in Economics and Spanish.  He was a member and Vice President of the Delta Epsilon Fraternity.  He earned a BA degree in June, 1948, graduating Summa Cum Laude.  He attended Columbia University in New York, studying International Trade.  In 1949, he joined a business with his brother, trading chemicals, and ultimately became President of that firm.  In 1960, he was asked to join the firm of Torre Products Co., Inc., a flavor manufacturing company, in New York City, and ultimately became President of the firm until his retirement in 1996.
  He was married to Filomena Claps Raho of Glen Ridge and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where he was a 1998 recipient of the Jubilee Medal Pro Meritis for distinguished service within the Archdiocese of Newark.  Surviving are his wife, Filomena Claps Raho, three sons: Joseph P. Raho, Michael F.P. Raho, Gerard E. Raho, daughters-in-law: Stephanie, Deborah, and Jane; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Keith and wife Joycelin, Caroline, Justin, Christienne, Christian, and Mia, and two great- granddaughters: Sophie and Isabelle.
  Visitation, Thursday, January 28, 2016, 2:00PM–4:00PM and 7:00PM-9:00PM at Van Tassel Funeral Home, 337 Belleville Ave, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. Funeral Mass, Friday, January 29 at 10:30, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 94 Pine Street, Montclair, NJ followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair, NJ.
