Marilyn Conrad, 86, passed away on Saturday September 1st, 2018 at home in Bloomfield due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in Montclair, Marilyn attended the public schools, and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and Montclair State University. She married David Conrad, a local lawyer, for 59 years, and their children are Robbie, Philip and Angela. She is also survived by Robbie’s husband, Chris Ratte, Philip’s wife Natacha Mongeau, and Angela’s husband, Roberto Osti, as well as grandchildren, Chloe and Lucas Ratte and Emilia and Massimo Osti. Besides raising a family, Marilyn worked in many businesses including, for 6 years, the post of executive secretary to Rev. John J. Spong as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark.
Marilyn was active for over 40 years in the Union Congregational Church, appearing onstage in a number of plays presented by the Union Church Players, as well as starring in the Montclair Dramatic Club’s productions of “Teahouse of the August Moon” and “Wait Until Dark.” She was also a member of the Junior League of Montclair. A book of her poetry was published in 2014.
A ardent traveler, she and her husband visited Mexico, Kenya, Peru, Spain, Morocco, Wales, Turkey, China, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Thailand, Poland, Hungry, Russia and Ireland.
