Mary Romano (nee Melillo), 95 of Maplewood passed away at home on November 25, 2018.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood on Thursday, Nov 29th at 10:00AM. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00PM. Mary was born in Mt. Pleasant, PA and has lived in Maplewood for the past 54 years. She started working as an executive secretary for A&P and then worked as the Assistant Public Information Director for the county of Essex from 1975-1986. Mary served as a member of the Giblin Assoc executive board as a corresponding secretary, she also served the democratic party in several capacities including longtime chair and vice chair of Maplewood Democratic Committee and was instrumental in Maplewood going from 5-0 Republican township committee to a 5-0 democratic township committee, delegate to the NJ Democratic convention in 1983 and co-chair of volunteers in Northeast NJ for the Jim Florio campaign and as an inaugural staff for Governor Florio. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Rosary Alter Staff and the ladies auxiliary of South Orange Elks #1154, Maplewood Senior Citizens Club II and St. Joseph’s Rainbow Seniors. Mrs. Romano was predeceased by her husband Nicholas F. Romano, brothers Henry and Phil Melillo, sister Anna Mae Imbeninato. Mary is survived by her children Mary Fox (Tim) and Nicholas F. Romano Jr. (Annette), grandchildren Christina, Jessica and Nicholas Romano, Joseph and Ryan Fox.
