Teresita “Chitang” (nee Genavia) Pablo, 75, of Bloomfield passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, encircled by her husband and three daughters.
She was devoted to everything important in her life: her family, her Catholic faith, her friends and her career, giving “a 110% effort” to all.
Born on September 5, 1943 in Matnog, Sorsogon, Philippines she immigrated to the United States in 1967 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She met her husband Sergio Pablo in the US in 1969 and they married in the same year. After moving from St. Thomas, USVI to Jersey City, NJ, they eventually settled in Bloomfield, NJ, where they raised a family over the next 43 years. She was a dedicated parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield where her children attended grade school.
She spent the majority of her nursing career at Christ Hospital in Jersey City where she was a Nursing Supervisor for 37 years. Many who worked at the hospital came to know “Mrs. Pablo” and her firm but fair expectations. She was respected and well-liked by her colleagues, nurses and hospital staff.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Sergio; her loving children Jane Serell and her husband Joseph of Hawthorne, NJ, Anne Marie Collum and her husband Robert of Morris Plains, NJ, and Christina Pablo of Queens, NY as well as 5 beautiful grandchildren. She was the sister of Pedro Genavia, Agnes Zulueta, Rosario Genavia (all residing in the Philippines) and “Tita/Auntie” to numerous nieces and nephews. She was also pre-deceased by her 3 siblings: Veronica Bautista (CA), Maria de la Paz Pastrana (CA), and Vicente Genavia (Philippines).
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth at www.scnj.org would be appreciated.
