BELLEVILLE – The Belleville High School varsity baseball team defeated Caldwell and lost to Nutley last week to move to a 1-2 record.
The Bucs defeated Caldwell, 7-6, April 6, in eight innings at home. Trailing 5-1 in the sixth inning, the Bucs scored four runs to tie it. Dustin Walicky’s RBI triple tied it. The Bucs fell behind in the top of the eighth inning on an unearned run, but scored two in the bottom of the eighth to win it. Walicky hit a double in the eighth for his fourth hit of the game. Andrew Perez singled with two outs to score Walicky to end the game.
Senior Adrian Alarcon pitched a solid five innings and junior lefty Alex Luna got the win, pitching 2 ⅓ innings of relief.
On Friday, April 8, BHS lost at Nutley, 10-3. The Bucs were leading 1-0 in the third when Nutley tied the game. In the fourth, the Bucs allowed six unearned runs and didn’t recover.

Junior Anthony Roman will get the start on Monday, April 11. The rest of the pitching rotation for the week is undecided. Alarcon “is having arm issues so he will miss his scheduled start this week,” said BHS head coach Joe Sorce. “Another injury we have is catcher Dylan Walicky. Dylan has a bruised heel. He will miss the game Monday and we will see from there. Dylan has been playing great. He has nine hits in our first three games.”
