Belleville HS baseball team hopes to regroup from rough start

BELLEVILLE, NJ – The Belleville High School varsity baseball team hopes to bounce back from a rough start to the season.

The Bucs had a 1-5 record through April 12.

Belleville lost both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7, as the Bucs fell to Verona, 5-3, and Montclair Kimberley Academy, 8-0.

On  Monday, April 9, Belleville defeated Glen Ridge, 14-8. Trailing 7-5 to start the seventh and final inning, the Bucs exploded for seven runs. Offensively, Belleville was led by senior Dan Pinedo, who was 4-for-5, and freshman Joe Abramson, who was 2-for-3. Freshman Kevin Arroyo pitched 5.1 innings of relief to earn the win.

On Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12, the Bucs suffered tough losses at Bloomfield and at Linden. Sophomore Albert Carrero pitched a solid 3.2 innings in his first varsity start at Bloomfield. He will get a start early next week. “Hopefully he can build on his good outing,” said Belleville head coach Joe Sorce.

The Bucs will have their home opener today, April 13, against Cedar Grove. Junior Derek Lombardi will get the start.

On Saturday, April 14, Belleville will visit West Essex in North Caldwell. Freshmen Kevin Arroyo will get the start.

The Bucs will host Montclair on Monday, April 16; visit Orang on April 17, and host West Orange on Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m.

Belleville will host Roselle Park on Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m.

The starting pitchers have yet to be determined.
