Belleville HS baseball team looks to make good run in the GNT

BELLEVILLE, NJ – The Belleville High School varsity baseball team hopes to make a good run in the Greater Newark Tournament.

The Bucs received the No. 18 seed and will visit No. 15 seed Verona in the third preliminary round on May 3. The winner will visit No. 2 seed Millburn in the first round on May 5.

The GNT is considered the Essex County tournament.

The Bucs had a 3-9 record through April 25.

On Friday, April 20, Belleville lost to West Orange, 8-1.

The following day, the Bucs lost at Roselle Park, 4-3, on a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Anthony Liggins tied the game with a one- out single in the sixth for the Bucs.

On Monday, April 23, the Bucs traveled to Science and won, 18-3. Sophomore Albert Carrero earned the win. Carrero and Brian Defreites each hit inside-the-park home runs for the Bucs.

The Bucs have games Monday through Friday, April 30 to May 4.
