Belleville HS baseball team seeks more progress

BELLEVILLE, NJ – The Belleville High School varsity baseball team hopes to make more progress as the season goes along.

The Bucs defeated Science and lost to New Providence. The Bucs then fell to Verona in the Greater Newark Tournament to move to a 4-12 record.

Sebastian Alverio, a junior, pitched pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the 11-1 win over Science on May 1. “Sebastian threw the ball well,” said BHS head coach Joe Sorce.”Hopefully he builds on that moving forwards.”

The next day, the Bucs lost to New Providence, 11-1.

On Thursday, May 3, the Bucs lost to Verona, 6-0, in the GNT. Justin Klus pitched a good game, scattering five hits, but Verona’s Ian Metzger was dominant, said Sorce. Chris Amparo had the Bucs’ only hit.

Friday, May 4: home vs. Montclair Kimberley Academy. Freshmen Kevin Arroyo gets the start on the mound.
Monday, May 7: at Cedar Grove. Sebastian Alverio will start.
