Belleville HS baseball team tops Orange for second win of season

BELLEVILLE, NJ The Belleville High School varsity baseball team earned its second win of the season with a 6-2 win over Orange on Tuesday, April 17.

Sophomore Albert Carrero pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and didn’t  allow an earned run. Junior Sebastian Alverio contributed with a two-run double.

The Bucs, who moved to 2-7, were home against West Orange on Friday, April 20, looking to avenge a 9-4 loss to West Orange on opening day. Junior Derek Lombardi was the scheduled starting pitcher. He pitched five solid innings in a 4-1 loss to Cedar Grove on April 13. “Derek threw a lot of strikes and made some good pitches against a very good Cedar Grove lineup,” said Belleville head coach Joe Sorce.
On Saturday, April 21, the Bucs are home against Roselle Park at 11 a.m.. The starter will be Sebastian Alverio, who pitched well in a loss at West Essex on Saturday, April 14.. “We made a few mistakes against West Essex, they are a very good team, who capitalized on them. However, Sebastian had his best start of the season,” said Sorce..
The Bucs will host Science on Monday, April 23, and host Verona on Wednesday, April 25.

The Bucs will find out their seed in the Greater Newark Tournament on Tuesday night, April 24. The team will most likely play a preliminary round game on Thursday, April 26.

“Our players are working very hard and were hoping we can string a few wins together to make a push to qualify for the state tourney,” said Sorce.
