Belleville HS boys’ basketball team falls to Nutley

BELLEVILLE – Andre Velez scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Mohammed Yousef had 11 points, but the Belleville High School boys’ varsity basketball team lost to rival Nutley, 64-45, Monday, Jan. 11, at Nutley.

Adrielle Henson had seven points; Ethan Luarca had five points; Dave McAllister added three points; James Laquindanum had two points and Alcides DosReis added one point for the Bucs, who lost their fourth straight game and fell to a 2-5 record. It was the second time the Bucs lost to Nutley this season. Nutley won the first meeting, 64-57, in overtime in the Charlie Dolan Holiday Tournament consolation in Kearny on Dec. 30.

In previous action, Yousef had 11 points; McAllister had nine points and DosReis and Velez each had eight in the 74-48 loss at Christ the King Prep in Newark on Jan. 7. Kayson Wilder and Jose Gallardo each had four points; and Laquindanum and Brandon Torres each had two.
