BELLEVILLE – The Belleville High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated both Marion P. Charter School, 77-70, Feb. 12 and Technology, 56-54, in overtime on Feb. 18.
Mohammed Yousef had 25 points; Alcides DosReis had 22 points and Andre Velez had 16 in the win over Marion P. Charter.
Velez had 17 points; DosReis had 11 points and Kayson Wilder had 10 in the win over Technology. Mohammed Yousef had eight points and Dave McAllister had seven. BHS outscored Technoloyg, 10-7, in the third quarter and 16-13 in the fourth quarter to tie the score 49-49 and force overtime. BHS outscored Technology, 7-5, in overtime.
The Bucs lost to Montclair Kimberley Academy, 60-52, at home on Feb. 19. Velez had 24 points; DosReis had nine; Ethna Luarca had five; and Adrielle Henson and McAlister each had four. BHS moved to a 9-14 record.
The Bucs will host Nutley on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and host Christ the King on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
The Bucs, seeded 16th, will visit top-seeded Union City in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on March 1.
BHS lost both meetings with Nutley this season. They fell to Nutley, 64-57, Dec. 30 in the Kearny Tournament and lost 64-45 on Jan. 11 in Nutley.
