Belleville HS football team enjoys best season in decades as Bucs finish 7-3

BELLEVILLE, NJ — The Belleville High School football team enjoyed its best season in decades.

The Bucs, who lost to Passaic, 27-2 in the season finale on Nov. 7, finished with a stellar 7-3 record under second-year head coach Jermain Johnson.

It marked the first time that they won seven games since 1981. It’s also the first time that they won at least six wins in a season since 1990.

Here are the Bucs’ final offensive stats for the season:

Passing:

Arturo Berly: 8 for 22, 118 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs.

Anthony Cincere (junior): 7 for 29, 87 yards, 2 TD, 2 INTs.

Rushing: 

Derek Leigh (junior): 169 Carries, 1,242 yards, 14 TDs.

Ray Leak (senior): 52 carries, 302 yards, 3 TDs.

Ben Polk (senior): 30 carries, 154 yards, 1 TD.

Chris Fried: 10 carries, 106 yards, 2 TDs.

Receiving: 

Zier Stevens (senior): 5 catches, 94 yards, 3 TDs.

Ray Leak: 2 catches, 55 yards, 1 TD.
