Belleville HS girls’ basketball team edges Newark Central; Belleville boys’ hoops top Caldwell

BELLEVILLE – Priscilla Olivarria had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists and Keila Garcia had six points and four rebounds to lead the Belleville High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 33-32 home win at Newark Central on Jan. 12. Emani Hill had four points and seven rebounds; Gianna Benacquista had two points, five rebounds and two blocks; and Jehann Dabon, Najalis Gual and Sydney Gomez each had two for the Bucs.

BHS then fell to Newark Arts, 60-28, Jan. 14, at home and lost to Bloomfield, 61-24, Jan. 16, at home, to move to a 2-9 record.

Boys’ hoops prevail over Caldwell

Alcides DosReis scored 15 points and Mohammed Yousef had 14 to lead the Belleville High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 55-41 home win over Caldwell on Jan. 12. Dave McAllister also had 10 points in the win.

The Bucs lost to Oratory Prep, 64-58, in overtime at home on Jan. 15 to move to a 3-6 record. Oratory Prep outscored BHS, 12-6, in overtime.
