Belleville HS girls’ basketball team seeks progress

BELLEVILLE – The Belleville High School girls’ varsity basketball team hopes to get back on the winning track.

Freshman point guard Jehann Dabon scored nine points;  sophomore forward Emani Hill had six points and six rebounds and junior forward Gianna Benacquista added five points, seven rebounds and seven blocks in the 38-34 home loss to Glen Ridge on Jan. 7.

Dabon had 11 points, five steals and three rebounds and Hill had eight points and four rebounds in the 38-27 loss at Newark Science Park on Saturday, Jan. 9. Benacquista had five points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals; senior guard Keila Garcia added three rebounds and two steals; senior forward Priscilla Olavarria grabbed six rebounds; and Najalis Gual had two steals.

Olivarria scored nine points with five steals and two assists and Dabon had six points and two assists in the 59-23 home loss to rival Nutley on Monday, Jan. 11. Senior forward Janae Bryant had two points and six rebounds; Garcia had two points, four steals and two assists and Hill added two points, four rebounds and four steals for the Lady Buccaneers, who lost their fourth straight game to move to a 1-7 record.
