Belleville HS softball team loses for first time in five games this season; home field to be renamed in honor of former legendary coach Carl Corino

BELLEVILLE – The Belleville High School varsity softball won its first four games before losing to Millburn.

Victoria Bruno went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and three runs and Gianna Benacquista went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs in the 22-2 win over Arts on April 13 in Newark.

Keila Garcia tripled and drove in three runs while scoring two runs and Kara Sica struck out two and allowed two hits, two runs and three walks in three innings.

BHS then fell to Millburn, 16-2, April 15  at Clearman Field to move to a 4-1 record.

On April 23, the Bucs will officially rename the softball field at Clearman Field in honor of former BHS softball coach Carl Corino, who guided the team to a remarkable 507-191 record  in 25 years (1980-1993 and 1995-2005) , including three Essex County Tournament championships, 12 ECT finals appearances and two state tournament championships. In 2002, he became the state’s all-time winningest coach, a distinction he held for two seasons.
