Belleville HS softball team routs Barringer in play-in game in ECT

BELLEVILLE – The 18th-seeded Belleville High School varsity softball team defeated 20th-seeded Barringer, 21-0, in a play-in game of the Essex County Tournament on April 29 at Corino Softball Complex at Clearman Field.

Kristan Lombardi had two hits and four RBI; Kaila Freid had two hits and three RBI; and Alyssa Welter had two hits and two RBI for the Bucs, who improved to an 11-4 record.

Jehan Dabon had two hits and an RBI and CherylAnn Nicosia had two RBI.

The Bucs will host 19th-seeded Glen Ridge in a play-in game on or by May 5. The winner will be re-seeded as the No. 16 seed and will visit top-seeded Mount Saint Dominic in the first round on or by May 7.

In their previous game April 28, the Bucs defeated East Side, 14-12, in a Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division game in Newark. Breana Nieves had three hits and six RBI; Victoria Bruno had two hits and three RBI; and Luciana Gilfone had two hits and two RBI for the Bucs, who avenged a 9-1 loss to East Side on April 22 at home.
