Belleville HS wrestlers end seasons at Region Tournament

BELLEVILLE – Belleville High School’s Brad Murillo, Joseph Buonanno and Joseph Nguyen each lost in the preliminary round of the Region 4 Tournament on Feb. 24 at West Orange High School to end their seasons.

Murillo, a junior, lost to Cedar Grove’s John Schultz by an 8-6 decision in the 132-pound class to finish with a 15-9 record.

Buonanno, a senior, was pinned by Nick Legreaux of Passaic Tech in 1:06 in the 138-pound class to finish with 13 wins this season.

Nguyen, a senior, lost to Santo DiCondina by a 3-1 decision in the 160-pound class to finish with a stellar 25-12 record.

The three BHS wrestlers qualified for the Region Tournament after finishing in the top three in their weight classes at the District 14 Tournament at Livingston High School the previous week. Murillo and Nguyen each took second and Buonanno took third at the District. They were the only BHS qualifiers for the Region.
