BELLEVILLE – Carlos Castro, a Belleville High School graduate, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game after leading the Rutgers University-Newark men’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Manhattanville College last month.
Castro, a sophomore midfielder, scored two goals, three overall in the tournament. The goals were the only ones he scored this season. He played in 24 games with four starts. Rutgers-Newark finished with a 16-7-1 overall record.
Meanwhile, two other BHS graduates, Max Correa and Marlon Rodriguez, were starters for this year’s Drew University men’s soccer. Both are freshmen.
Correa, a midfielder, played in 14 games with six starts, while Rodriguez, a defender, also played in 14 games, starting 11. Rodriguez posted one assist this season. Drew finished 12-5-3.
The three played for former BHS head coach Len Marino, who expressed his elation for their accomplishments.
“All three of them were top-notch players,” said Marino, noting Castro was a four-year starter for the Bucs.
