GLEN RIDGE, NJ – The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity basketball team defeated Belleville before losing to Glen Ridge in the annual Glen Ridge HS Holiday Tournament..
In the opening round, junior Sarah Edmond had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the 48-23 win over Belleville on Dec. 27. Senior Aicha Naoua had eight points and seven rebounds; junior Camrynn Referente had seven points and junior Jayda Lee had six.
Bloomfield lost to Glen Ridge, 29-23, in the championship game on Dec. 28 to move to a 2-3 record this season. Bloomfield led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. Glen Ridge outscored Bloomfield, 7-1, in the second quarter to take a 14-11 lead. Bloomfield tied it 20-20 at the end of the third quarter but the Ridgers took control of the fourth quarter to win it. Glen Ridge moved to 3-3.
People’s Prep was the other team it the four-team tournament.
In earlier action, BHS lost to a strong Newark Tech team, 66-32, Dec. 19. Referente led BHS with 13 points and Lee had eight points. Senior Beltide Mensah grabbed six rebounds for the Bengals.
The Bengals lost to East Orange Campus, 54-30, at home on Dec. 21. Edmond had eight points and nine rebounds and Naouai had six points and 15 rebounds. Plata had six points and Lee had five points and four rebounds.
