Brandon Basantes lifts Belleville HS boys’ soccer team in ECT preliminary round

BELLEVILLE, NJ – Brandon Basantes scored both goals, including the game-winner in double overtime, to lift the 22nd-seeded Belleville High School boys’ varsity soccer team to a 2-1 win over No. 23 Cedar Grove in the first preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament at Clearman Field on Oct. 13.

Josh Sanchez had both assists and Fernando Pesantez recorded 14 saves for the Bucs, who snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to a 5-8 record.

The Bucs will visit 11th-seeded Glen Ridge HS in the second preliminary round on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Watsessing Park at noon. The winner will visit sixth-seeded Millburn in the first round on or by Oct. 19.
