BELLEVILLE – Kaila Freid struck out 11 and allowed four hits in five innings and hit a two-run homer to spark the Belleville High School varsity softball team to a 12-1 home win over Newark Arts on Monday, May 9.
Victoria Bruno had a triple, two RBI and a run; and Keila Garcia and Gabby Racioppi each had two RBI for the Bucs, who improved to a 14-5 record. Brittney Huaman, Kristan Lombardi and Karen Wong each scored twice.
In their previous game, the 16th-seeded Bucs lost at top-seeded Mount Saint Dominic Academy, 10-0, in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on May 7 in Caldwell. The loss snapped the Bucs’ seven-game winning streak.
