Nutley HS baseball star Anthony Condito becomes all-time hits leader for Raiders

NUTLEY – Senior right fielder Anthony Condito became the all-time hits leader for the Nutley High School varsity baseball team when the Raiders defeated rival Belleville, 9-3, Friday night, April 29, at George Zanfini Field at Belleville High School.

Condito, who signed with Rutgers University last fall to continue his baseball career on an athletic scholarship, had two hits, giving him 124 for his career. The old mark of 123 was held by Giuseppe Papaccio, a 2009 NHS graduate and shortstop who later played at Seton Hall University and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 18th round in 2013.

Condito finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base.

Senior Domenic Palumbo went 3-for-3 with two RBI; freshman shortstop Marty Higgins was 2-for-5 with a run and a stolen base; senior center fielder Andrew Connor had two walks and scored two runs; senior third baseman Andrew Santos went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run; junior first baseman Jake Ramezzana went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run; and senior second baseman Matt Butler walked twice and scored a run for the Raiders, who took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led 8-0 in the second inning.

The Raiders improved to a 10-6 overall record.

For Belleville, Adrian Alarcon had two hits and an RBI and Dustin Walicky went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Belleville moved to 2-12.
