NUTLEY – Freshman Marty Higgins scored 22 points and senior Geoff Bevere and sophomore Matt Schettino each had 11 points to lead the Nutley High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 60-51 win at rival Belleville on Feb. 23.
Senior Antonio Olivo had six points and senior Will Montgomery had four points for the Raiders, who snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to a 13-12 record.
NHS led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Alcides DosReis had 16 points and Mohammed Yousef had 13 points to lead the Bucs, who moved to a 9-15 record. Andre Velez had 10 points and Dave McAlister had six for BHS.
Nutley won all three meetings with Belleville this season.
In earlier action, the Raiders lost to Clifton, 38-37, Feb. 20. Schettino had 10 points, Higgins had seven and Montgomery added five.
NHS fell at Marlboro, 58-49, Feb. 22. Olivo led the way with 12 points. Bevere and senior GianCarlo Padilla each had nine and senior Devin White added seven.
