NUTLEY, NJ –The Nutley High School varsity football team defeated arch rival Belleville, 20-13, at the Park Oval in a state regional crossover game on Saturday, Nov. 3, to finish the season on a three-game winning streak with a final 4-6 record.
Belleville finished 4-5 after starting 4-0, making solid strides under first-year head coach Jermain Johnson.
It marked the 76th meeting between the teams and the first since 2015. The series was discontinued following the formation of the Super Football Conference for the 2016 season. The teams met every year on Thanksgiving Day until 2011. From 2012 to 2015, Nutley opened its season against Belleville.
Belleville last beat Nutley in 2008 on Thanksgiving at Belleville’s Doc Ellis Field/Municipal Stadium.
