Andruchowitz places eighth in state wrestling finals

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Last week was a big week for Bloomfield High School athletics.

At the NJSIAA State Wrestling Finals, Zac Andruchowitz placed eighth at 182 pounds, becoming the Bengals first state place winner since the 2008-09 season when both Chris Lantz and Fabian Rosario reached the podium. Andruchowitz concludes his Bengal career with the third most wins in school history, trailing only Joe Chiaravallo and Fabian Rosario.

Track and field performed well in the team’s first dual meets, with the boys losing by a single point to Livingston and the girls losing by 2. At the Season Opener Invitational, the girls placed second in the 4×200 and discus. The boys placed fourth in the 4×200, 4×1600 and shotput, and placed fifth in the discus and 4×400.

Baseball opened the season with an 8-4 victory over Nutley. Andre Dean pitched a complete game and drove in two runs.

Boys volleyball topped West Caldwell Tech 2-0 in their season opener and the golf team triumphed over Belleville 181-244.

Softball lost contests to Montclair and Millburn, and boys tennis dropped close matches to Caldwell and West Orange.
