UPDATED: BHS boys basketball team to host Newark Academy in the ECT

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys basketball team hopes to make a good run in the 73rd Essex County Tournament.

The Bengals, seeded 14th, will host No. 30 seed Newark Academy in the preliminary third round Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the first round (round of 16) at No. 3 seed Newark West Side, Feb. 9.

Bloomfield had byes in the preliminary first round and preliminary second round. Newark Academy defeated No. 36 seed West Caldwell Tech  in the preliminary first round and beat No. 19 seed Cristo Rey of Newark in the preliminary second round.

The quarterfinals are Feb. 16 at the higher-seeded sites. The semifinals are Feb. 19 at West Orange HS and the final is Feb. 23 at Essex County College in Newark.

The Bengals fell to Barringer, 61-57, Jan. 29 in Newark in a Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division game to move to 9-9 overall record. Senior guard Michael Ramos had 20 points; junior guard Vinny Torrisi had 14 points with four 3-pointers; senior forward Will Robinson had 12 points; senior guard Tochi Anyanwu had five points; sophomore guard Vernon Lee added four points and senior forward Kevin Mitchell chipped in two points.
