BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys soccer team is looking forward to the season this fall.
The Bengals, under head coach Mike Aiello, held fitness and summer sessions in July.
“We had a ton of graduates from last year’s team, but are bringing back a good amount of starters from last year’s team,” wrote Aiello in an email to The Independent Press. “We’ve also been impressed by some of the younger players who will be battling for time on the varsity level this season.”
The captains are seniors Anthony Rizzi, Marco Colasurdo, and Noah Kelly and junior Nicholas Rizzi, Anthony’s brother.
“These four have been extremely impressive throughout the summer,” Aiello lauded. “They’ve grown up playing together and have developed a strong friendship throughout the years. They’re a great group who set a great example with both their attitudes and work ethic.”
The Bengals, looking to build off last year’s 9-8 season, will start tryouts on Aug. 12 and are “excited to get going this year,” wrote Aiello.
Bloomfield has scrimmages against Morris Hills on Aug. 26 and Garfield on Aug. 30. The season kicks off Sept. 4 against West Essex at Foley Field at 4 p.m.
Bloomfield has moved up to the Super Essex Conference-American Division, which is the top division in the conference.
