BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Last month at Bloomfield’s Wright’s Field, the 2018 Bloomfield Babe Ruth League came to another season finale.

The league was very fortunate this past year to have seven Bloomfield pizza shops sponsor teams. Zi Zia Pizza, known for their mussles fra diavolo, were spring-season champs.

Calabrese Pizza, known for their broccoli rabe with shrimp, were runner-ups. Frank’s Pizza, known for their buffalo chicken ‘pie’, were also runner-ups. Angelo’s Pizza, known for their chicken parm with alla vodka sauce, were summer-season champs. Parkside Pizza, known for their grandma ‘pie’, were runner-ups. Vinnie’s Pizza, known for their penne alla vodka, were runner-ups as well, and Prime Time Pizza, known for their chicken francese, were fall-season champs where the league’s championship trophy is currently displayed.

“There is already a friendly camaraderie between our pizza shops…We thought a Battle of the Pizza Shops on the baseball field would be a great way to spice up excitement between them and boost interest in recreation baseball in town,” stated League President Jonathan Cipollina.

Other businesses and organizations who contributed their time or money for the love of baseball were Spin Central, Modell’s, Bloomfield’s Best Bagels, Russo Bros Plumbing, the Bloomfield Buzzards, and the Amateur Baseball Association.

“Even with all the rain this year; and kudos to Bloomfield’s Recreation & Department of Public Works, we played to conclusion over 65 league games since April 14 where we had the opportunity to promote or thank our generous sponsors,” Cipollina said. “It’s especially rewarding to our league when our championship teams or the coaches get to deliver that monumental trophy to the winning pizza shop’s storefront. That interaction and sense of community is one of the many reasons we volunteer our time here for the kids.”
