BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity softball team defeated Newark Academy,7-6, in a night game at Clarks Pond South on Thursday, May 12, in a Super Essex Conference non-divisional game.
It was the Bengals’ second straight win and third in four games to move to a 9-12 record. In their previous game, the seventh-seeded Bengals defeated 10th-seeded Verona, 3-1, in the Essex County Tournament first round on May 9 at Clark Pond South.
The Bengals will host West Orange on Friday, May 13, at Clarks Pond South in an SEC non-divisional game and will visit second-seeded West Essex in the ECT quarterfinals on Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. in North Caldwell. If the Bengals win, they will play the winner of third-seeded Nutley and sixth-seeded Cedar Grove in the ECT semifinals doubleheader at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field at Ivy Hill Park in Newark on Friday, May 20. The ECT final is May 21 at 7 p.m. at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.
