BLOOMFIELD (updated Tuesday June 28, 11:13 a.m.) – Over the years, the Bloomfield High School football program has produced players who have gone on to achieve success in their endeavors.

To those players, being a BHS alum means always having Bengal Pride.

That Bengal Pride once again was on display during this year’s Sixth Annual BHS Alumni Football Camp for youngsters.

Founded and directed by Anthony Lambo, the camp enjoyed a tremendous turnout on Saturday, June 25, at Foley Field.

The camp instructors, who are former BHS players from the past three decades, guided the youngsters through various friendly drills that focused on the fundamentals of football. For instance, the campers learned the proper way to block, run with the football, pass and catch. Under sunny skies and ideal weather conditions, campers, who wore t-shirts given by the camp, had a great time while honing their skills.

The camp’s main sponsor was NFL PLAY60. The camp was offered free of charge.

BHS head coach Mike Carter, a Bengal alum himself who has been at the head coaching helm since 1991, also was at the camp guiding his BHS players who were working out at the other end of the field.

Lambo, a 1996 BHS graduate and All-State lineman who went on to play at Virginia Tech, started the camp in 2011. The camp is a great way for former BHS players to come together and pass along the lessons they have learned on and off the field. The campers, indeed, also are inspired by those former great BHS players, who help to instill Bengal Pride.

One of the instructors was Olivier Georges, who just became a BHS alum after graduating two days earlier. Georges, a tight end for the Bengals, will continue his career at American International College in Springfield, Mass. in the fall. Georges, who also lettered in basketball and track and field, credited his BHS coaches, including coach Carter, for his all-around development. “I’ve met some coaches who have mentored me and gave me advice and I am taking all that with me to AIC,” he told the Independent Press as he was instructing the campers.

Georges, indeed, always took pride in wearing his Bengal uniform. Thanks to the camp, young kids will be able to follow the same path as Georges and other BHS football alumni.
