Bloomfield HS baseball team blanks Belleville, falls to Cedar Grove in tough 2-1 game

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School varsity baseball team defeated Belleville and lost to Cedar Grove in back-to-back days at Bloomfield Middle School field to move to a 2-3 record.

Sophomore Vincent Torrisi went 2-for-3 with three RBI and senior Ed Abplanalp went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the 10-0 win over Belleville in the home opener April 11 under the lights. Junior Robert Gilmore pitched a five-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

The next day, the Bengals dropped a tough 2-1 home decision to Cedar Grove. In the top of the first, Cedar Grove scored two runs. Bloomfield got a run in the bottom of the seventh inning in its final at-bat on an RBI from Torrisi, but came up short.
