Bloomfield HS baseball team defeats Montclair Kimberley Academy

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Eddie Abplanalp went 4-for-4 with two singles, two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base and Vincent Torrisi went 3-for-3 with three singles and a walk to lead the Bloomfield High School varsity baseball team to an 8-6 win over Montclair Kimberley Academy on Monday, May 7, at Bloomfield Middle School.

Jon Gonzalez and Kyle Tice each had a single and two RBI for the Bengals, who moved to a 9-8 record.

Kyle DiMatteo pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and  five walks and striking out three to earn the win and improve to 2-1.

For MKA, Luciano Calandra went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI; Andrew Rosamili had a pinch-hit two-run single and Dom Flocco went 1-for-3 with a single, walk, and an RBI.

In their previous game, the ninth-seeded Bengals fell at eighth-seeded Cedar Grove, 6-0, in the first round of the Greater Newark Tournament on Saturday, May 5.

The Bengals fell to Nutley,  7-3, May 1, at Bloomfield Middle School field. Elliot Urgent went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored; Torrisi went 2-for-4 with two singles, an RBI, and a run scored; and Rob Reboa went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and two RBI. Dylan Piacenza pitched five innings, allowing three hits, three walks and one hit batter.

The Bengals defeated Morris Knolls, 4-3, May 3, on the road. Robert Gilmore pitched a five-inning complete game that was shortened by rain, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks, striking out four to improve to 3-0. Urgent went 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, and an RBI; Torrisi went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and two RBI; Abplanalp went 1-for-2 with a single, two walks and an RBI.

Bengals Baseball Camp to be held

The 12th annual Bengals Baseball Camp will be held for three weeks at Bloomfield Middle School field: July 16 through July 20; July 23 through July 27 and July 30 through August 30.

The camp is directed and founded by Bloomfield High School head baseball coach Mike Policastro.
