Bloomfield HS baseball team ends season with a flourish

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School ended its season with a flourish, beating Science Park and Belleville in back-to-back games to finish with a 12-12 overall record.

The Bengals defeated Science Park, 19-2, May 23, at West Side Park in Newark.

Senior Cristian Lambert pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks and striking out one, while junior Darmany Rivas (1-0) pitched 2 1/3 innings of two-hit relief, striking out six, to earn his first varsity win.

Junior Jon Guglielmino went 1-for-1 with a homer, walk and three RBI; senior Manny Corporan went 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBI; junior Guillermo Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with a single, walk, and an RBI; junior Kyle DiMatteo went 1-for-1 with a double, hit-by-pitch and two RBI; and junior Rob Reboa went 2-for-2 with two singles and an RBI.

The Bengals defeated Belleville, 5-2, May 24, at Bloomfield Middle School field in the season finale.

Senior Dylan Piacenza (2-0) pitched four innings of one-hit ball with one strikeout and one walk to earn the win. Senior Brandon Kelly pitched one inning of one hit ball with two strikeouts and four walks, allowing one run, and also went 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI. Senior Elliot Urgent pitched two innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and striking out two for the save, and also went 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBI.

Senior Eddie Abplanalp went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Junior Kyle Tice went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double.

The following BHS players earned All-Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division honors:

First Team: Corporan.

Second Team: Sophomore Vinny Torrisi, Reboa.

Honorable Mention: Abplanalp and Urgent.
