Bloomfield HS baseball team falls to Randoph in state tourney opener

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (updated Tuesday May 30, 12:15 p.m.) – The 16th-seeded Bloomfield High School varsity baseball team fell at top-seeded Randolph, 6-2, in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament May 23.

Craig Dittrich had a double and an RBI and fellow junior Edward Abplanalp had a hit and an RBI for the Bengals, who scored both their runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut it to 5-2. Senior Danny Carter went 1-for-3 for BHS.

The Bengals then fell to Columbia, 8-3, in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game, Saturday, May 27, in Maplewood. Junior Elliot Urgent went 2-for-2 with an RBI; freshman Vincent Torrisi went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI; and junior Manny Corporan and Carter each went 1-for-3 with a run. The Bengals moved to a 6-20 record.

BHS was scheduled to visit Livingston, May 30, in the season finale in a SEC-American Division game.
