BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity baseball team is off to a fine start to the season. The Bengals defeated Caldwell and Nutley to move to a 2-0 record.
Danny Carter went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and two stolen bases and Luis Rullan went 1-for-1 with a RBI, two walks and a stolen base in the 5-3 win over Caldwell in the season opener on Friday, April 1, at Bloomfield Middle School field. Brian Rennie went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base and Donato Saccaro went 1-for-3. Jose Cruz struck out 10 and allowed four hits over 6 ⅓ innings for the victory.
Carter went 3-for-3 with a homer, two runs and three RBI; Rennie went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs and a walk; and Rullan went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs and four RBI to lead the Bengals to an 11-4 win at Nutley on Saturday, April 2, in a divisional game. Edward Abplanalp went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Aldo Maldonado scattered six hits over 5 ⅔ innings with three strikeouts for the win.
