BLOOMFiELD, NJ (updated Thursday Feb. 8, 9:37 a.m.) – The Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ bowling teams swept the Essex County Tournament boys’ and girls’ team championships on Monday, Feb. 5, at Brunswick Zone in Belleville.

The boys’ team had a pin total of 2,817 among the 15 teams. Livingston was runner-up with a 2,687 score.

Bryan Fuscarino finished third overall with a 619 series. Bruce Sprague was sixth with a 592 series and Egan Adler took eighth at 580.

On the girls’ side, Bloomfield had a pin total of 2,128 to win the team title among the seven teams. Shannon Broadfoot finished first overall with a 511 series. Bearanne Julian took third with a 453 series.

Philip Rapavi, head coach for the Bloomfield boys’ and girls’ teams, was elated for his teams in winning the ECT titles.

“Winning the counties was a fantastic way to finish off the season,’ Rapavi said. “The girls surprised me this year with a strong finish by clinching the league title early and then rolling into counties with confidence. They will definitely be tested at state sectionals this weekend facing some tough competition.

“The boys were impressive all season long, but struggled in state sectionals before bowling counties. It proved to be a bit of a wake-up call, and they answered it by beating finishing ahead of a solid Livingston team, who won our section in states just three days earlier. I am truly proud of all my student-athletes who put in a lot of hard work and pulled together as a team when things got tough.”

The BHS teams also won the Super Essex Conference championships this season
