Bloomfield HS boys’ and girls’ bowling teams roll to first place in SEC-American Division

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The bowling season has reached its halfway point and both the Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ varsity teams sit in first place in the Super Essex Conference-American Division.

The boys are 49-7 with their only loss coming by way of Nutley in the first week. They have gone undefeated since then. They currently have the team high scratch game 884 and team high scratch series 2,534 for their four-man squad.

The boys are led by junior Bryan Fuscarino, who is averaging 205. AJ Moore is averaging 194 and has a high game of 288 and 716 series. Egan Adler has a season-best 276 game and 772 series. Bruce Sprague has set the tone in the leadoff spot, averaging a consistent 189. Gabe Farabaugh has emerged from the JV squad and made contributions to the varsity team, filling in with a 180 average and high game of 264.  “The team has really come together as a unit and is hitting its stride going into the final weeks of the season,” said BHS head coach Phil Rapavi. “I am excited and hopeful that this well-rounded squad will make a strong push to finish out the season and be serious contenders at counties and states.”

The varsity girls’ team has faced some adversity throughout the season because few key players graduated last year. However, senior Bear Julian and junior Shannon Broadfoot remain as strong leaders of the squad, and freshmen Keyana Coley-Rice and Jennifer Cleary show great improvement each week and have contributed to the winning record.

The girls are currently 52-11 and hold an eight-point lead in the division. Julian is leading in high average with a 150, high game 219 and high series of 560. Broadfoot is showing great form in the second half and has a high game of 202. “The girls have banded together and are fighting through some tough matches this year,” said Rapavi. “They are showing a lot of heart and resiliency, and will need every ounce of it to finish this off to the end.  I am confident that they can get the job done.”

The teams bowl at Brunswick Zone in Belleville.

The Essex County Tournament will be held February 4 at Eagle Rock Lanes in West Orange. The ECT Individual Finals will be held Feb. 7 at Eagle Rock Lanes.
