CORRECTED: Bloomfield HS boys’ and girls’ track and field teams finish second at SEC meet

Correction: Essex County Championships will be held at Montclairs Woodman Field.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams enjoyed impressive showings at the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division Championships at Schools Stadium on Friday, May 11.

Both teams finished second overall in their respective team standings.

The boys’ team had 97.5 points. West Side won the team title with 119 points among the nine scoring teams.

La’Shan White won both the 110-meter hurdles in 14.91 and the 400-meter hurdles in 54.55 to lead BHS. Saif Younas was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.35 and  sixth in 58.55 in the 400 hurdles. The 4×400-meter relay team finished first in 3:28.77. Enrique Campos finished second in the 3,200 meters in 10:32.43. Warlys Lizardo won the discus with a throw of 120 feet; Makaih Ortiz was second at 119-7 and Joan Medina-Casado was third at 108-9. In the shot put, Xavier Gulley was second at 39-7; Joe Bumpus was third at 39-1 and Nathaniel Rodriguez was fifth at 38-7 ¼. In the javelin, John Ridley was third at 128-10 and Michael Bsales was sixth at 119-9. In the pole vault, Michael Brozostek took fourth and Philip Mabalatan was sixth, both at 8-6. In the triple jump, Andrew Terc took sixth at 39-9 ½. Christian Parisi took sixth in the high jump at 5-4.

The girls’ team had 84 points to finish second behind West Essex, which had 178 points among the nine scoring teams.

Aicha Naouai won both the discus at 95-5 and the javelin at 126-6 ½ to lead BHS. In the 100-meter dash, Keziah Anderson was second in 12.87 and Morgan Wyatt was fourth in 12.93. In the 200-meter dash, Wyatt was second in 26.75 and Rukiya Holland-Thomas was third in 26.77. Mackenzie Prezume was second in the 800 meters in 2;22.90 and Natasha Senatus was sixth at 2:33.38. Camrynn Referente was fifth in 5:57.08 and Veronica Yanez was sixth in 6:12.70 in the 1,600 meters. Lizabeth Morocho was fourth in the 3,200 in 13:25.68. Keziah Anderson took sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.60. Beltide Mensah was third in the high jump at 4-4. In the pole vault, Annie Bickmore was third at 8-0 and Anatalia Pena was fourth at 7-0. In the shot put, Alexis Taylor was fifth at 30-6 and Noura Kakandendi was sixth at 30-¼.

The Essex County Championships will be held May 18-19 at Woodman Field in Montclair.
