BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team is as hot as any team in the area.
Indeed, the Bengals’ strong play could not have come at a better time as the 71st Essex County Tournament is set to begin.
The Bengals, seeded 10th, will begin ECT play in the first round when they visit No. 7 seed Millburn on Feb. 11. The top seed is Newark East Side. The field includes 39 teams.
Michael Ramos scored 20 points and fellow senior Francis Lorenzo had 14 points to lead the Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 71-58 win over Lincoln of Jersey City on Friday, Jan. 27 in a non-conference game.
With the win, the Bengals improved to a 14-3 overall record.
Junior forward Richie Guillaume had 13 points; and junior Kyle Barrow and senior Myles Toppin each had 11 points for the Bengals.
In their previous game, Lorenzo and Barrow each had 11 points, but the Bengals lost to Barringer, 53-50, in overtime at home on Jan. 24 in a Super Essex Conference non-division game. Toppin scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds; junior Mayowa Akindebe had eight points; and Ramos added five points and three rebounds.
