Bloomfield HS boys’ basketball team defeats No. 1 seed Randolph to advance to North 1, Group 4 state tourney semifinals

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The defending champion Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team had an easy time in upsetting top-seeded Randolph, 59-34, in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on March 1 at Randolph.

Richie Guillaume scored 19 points and Michael Ramos had 17 to lead the ninth-seeded Bengals. Mayowa Akindebe and Kyle Barrow each had five points; Will Robinson had four; Tochi Anyanwu and Jamir Ramos each had three; Aaron Henry added two and Kevin Mitchell chipped in a free throw for the Bengals, who improved to a 22-6 record. Randolph fell to 20-7.

The Bengals will visit fourth-seeded North Bergen in the semifinals on March 3. North Bergen defeated No. 12 seed Passaic County Tech, 63-51, in the quarterfinals to improve to 20-7.

The other semifinal pits No. 3 seed Paterson Kennedy at No. 2 seed Hackensack. The final is March 5.

Last season, the top-seeded Bengals defeated Randolph in the semifinals en route to winning the North 1, Group 4 tournament title.
